Banned: Tech Guy and Silea (Kate)

(Silea was banned because she has multiple accounts).

Silea (Katie) has been banned from the forums (one of Terry Shanahan's cult followers) as as Technology Guy (or TG) as some call him. The banning took place around the end of February 2017.

Bullied Since 2014 By The G Mob

Here is a comment left from a former Vine Voice who was bullied by Gertrude/Amelia/Terry/Naughty etc etc etc  - (A note to Anonymous: you are certainly not the only one. Many many people have disappeared over the years after being mocked and belittled. It seems to being going though a quiet lull right now if you feel you want to lurk or wade back in.)

I only just found out about G being banned (off-site, when someone shared your blog), as I stopped using the forums back in 2014, just a few months after the queue system began. I can't say I'm sympathetic. She is the reason I left the forums, never to return. Her bullying of me was merciless and without reason, for I'd never done anything to her. I didn't even retaliate against the bullying, for two wrongs don't make a right. I simply took what I considered the best option available for ending it and removed myself from the equation, leaving the forums. So... the bullying history goes back at least to 2014. I still won't be returning to the forums, though. Too many of her friends are still there, and I do not have the emotional strength or resiliency to deal with potential personal attacks and bullying again.

Contradictions Of Bullies On Vine Forum

On 1/29/17 Outlaw Poet, one of the Amazon Vine Bullies chimes in to say that the topic of Gertrude/Terry being banned has grown mean. Tech Guy claims it's become toxic. And at the end we have Paul, who, is feeling what every person ever chased from the Vine forum feels; and that is irony that these same people who constantly belittle and back door devalue other members are now saying/complaining that they are upset and 'it's not fair."

I don't believe in mocking anyone. I do think that perhaps tensions were high after much of what happened in this thread. A thread started, I might add, because one poster was concerned about another.

Look I'm going to delete part of this post and I'm going away from this thread until the stupid people leave. I'm sure something needs mopping and for sure my portfolio needs adjusting.

===================================

Well, did you see the latest??? They walked back the tariff.

Here are today's lies and walk-backs --

1) The Mexican Pres & I agreed not to meet
(sure. That's why Fox used the F-word. Because you guys get along so well)

2) Tariff Time
walkback after someone probably told him that he needs Congress and legal changes to do that

3) Those Senior Execs in the State Department were asked to leave
(Odd, that's not what they said in their interview on NPR)

I have whiplash.

NauGhty, Gertrude, Terry banned from Amazon Vine Forum

Finally - it took some time, but Amazon silenced the bully Terry Lynn Shanahan from posting on the Vine forums. Now, her clique is gathering around her and defending her bullying tactics as Vine members heave a sigh of relief that the thorn is gone.

Here is the link for the forum wondering what happened to her, causing many Vine members who usually only "lurk" to come out and praise the fact that she is gone (she can still review, however, which is a mystery to me - she should lose all her privileges).

Here is what some people are saying about her:

I think you guys are underestimating the number of Vine lurkers who hated the disruptive bickering between G and DebO and G's insistence of talking about DebO all over the forum. I enjoy G most of the time, but I know I'm not alone in finding that behavior annoying.

As far as negging posts on this thread, I'd guess they are a mix of disagreement negs and a "vote" against a perceived cliquishness of this forum. I think you're kidding yourself if you believe it's one or two people signing in and out of different accounts.

Paul Cassel says:
I just found this thread and tend to agree with Maine. What struck me is the possibility, based on the negging of any support for this G woman, that many lurk here but choose not to participate due to the nastiness and the supposed 'humor' from a few who seem to have hours every day to hang around here making in-crowd comments.

I"ve stated before that if this place was a bit less of what it is, we'd get more participation by those who now avoid posting. I can't say the negs here prove my contention, but they do tend to support it.

Katawampas says:
I'm trying to understand where "name calling" happened. That is an honest question from me.

That passive aggressive display from some of the "regular posters" was classic Gertrude behavior. I guess we're going back to the way it was with new leadership fighting for her position. So dig in your heels a little more. That is sad. I am sorry.

Paul Cassel says:
I don't agree, Wandr. I read this thread, and then Maine's post. At first, I was highly reluctant to post my own opinion because when I'd done so in the past, and my opinion was not the same as the Usual Suspects, I got lambasted for it. I only posted because if Maine was brave enough to do so, I felt I should also. If not for Maine, I'd not have posted.

The scolding for those who gossip, post annoying quips, pile on abuse for opinions stated out of the Accepted Norms discourage folks. Some here say negs mean nothing, but they do to most. And those are the ones who stay away. It takes a thick skin to be here and what does that gain one? Start a thread with a reasonable question and get:

Donkeys don't do that
Monkeys do that
I like my cat
Don't ask that question. It's been asked over and over again, you dimwit.
Remember the one who wore the purple shirt and got banned? Well, she died.

....or not much benefit.

My remarks concern only my experiences. I hope that they will contribute to the conversation. I understand that some posters will probably think that they don't. I am fine with that.

I have not been a contributor to the forum for a very long time (a year+) and have dropped in to see what is happening only a couple of times since then. So I suppose I count as a lurker, albeit it one who is seldom here at all.

I was hounded off the forum by the spiteful, misinformed, and frequent posts (accusations) of a frequent poster who has now been banned. Try as I might--and as I did--to disabuse the poster of her inaccurate claims, and to persuade her to move on, and to leave me alone, the nastiness, incorrect claims, and accusations continued. And continued. After months of this, and recurring iterations of it provoked by...who knows what?...I left the forum. I didn't post, and for a long time, I didn't come here even to read posts. I came back a couple of times when there were Vine policy changes that were puzzling or unclear. And I came back this week because I was curious about how posters were responding to the election and its aftermath.

I don't have the ambition, or the time, to go back to interacting often on the forum. And I would not be here now if I had not been privately notified of the posting ban imposed on the person whom I found to be unrelentingly nasty (if also occasionally funny and helpful).

I believe that the posting ban was long overdue. And--yes--I hope that it will be permanent.

I actually agree with you, Paul. I've rarely posted due to the regulars who not only can be insulting but turn a thread into a useless list of nonsense. It's been going on since the beginning. Ironically, those who are heavily negged, which is everyday lately, aren't getting it. And the negs are real people, I don't think you can neg more than once.

HalfSmoke says:
Paul Cassel: while I don't mind thread drift and social chatter that much, I agree with you that rapid-fire posting of one liners, constant references to inside jokes, and coordinated "derail" campaigns create an inside/outside dynamic on this message board.

Maine Colonial: I think you've provided some important insight into what ails our Forum over your last few posts. I do believe, though, that the addition of TRF/GBF regulars and, consequently, the TRF/GBF style of posting and discussion to Vine a while back led to what's going on here now. The dominance of drama, conflict, grudge matches, and competitive behavior on TRF and most other Amazon boards is what keeps me away from them.

Katawampas: I agree with your string of posts from Jan. 28. If G/Gertrude/Trouble/etc.'s hostile, obsessive behavior and irrational personal attacks were a one-time event or the result of a recent personal crisis, it could be excusable. But the pattern, stretching over years and dozens of targets, justifies a permanent posting ban.
(if anybody from AMAZON or the VINE TEAM is reading this, I'd say that the increase in participants on the Vine Member Forum since G was banned shows the ban was a good decision)

All: As I said in another thread, I don't accept "70% good, only 30% bad" and "made the trains run on time" excuses for a long history of actions that violate Amazon's Community Guidelines. To me, the "fun" and "help" and "banter" bestowed on a select number of admirers in no way justifies attacking and belittling well-meaning, curious, or new people to the Vine Forum.

hasselaar says:
G was a bully and a coward. How many times did I come across her viciously attacking some poor poster, unable to defend themselves, and literally sending off fear vibes from the cruelty and viciousness of that particular G. assault. G. was mentioned as having "issues". No, she was seriously disturbed.

I used to be on the Forum more before I quit in disgust at the allowed antics that were causing very real, and very painful psychological harm to others.

I reached a point that I am not proud of, but I admit it, and in this case have no regrets. When I encountered G. at her very worst - bullying, attacking, vile, beyond the pale - I went up against her. I beat her every time, and not by vile language, or socially unacceptable means.

I was a better writer than G., with a larger vocabulary, and I absolutely detest a bully. I was able to tie her in knots, insult her behavior, and grind her into the ground. Yet, using not one word or sentence that would offend the most pious among us. I quit when she called me "mean", began her online crocodile tears, and offered no more responses to my "conversation" with her.

I did not troll for her, but when I saw her in action, I took her out. No, I am not proud of it, but my real life occupation involves doing what it takes to defend the defenseless. G. deserved every bit of what she got from me, and from the brave others who stood up to her. So, she is banned? Good.

I will end by saying that I have made mistakes, I have a post or two that I am not proud of. I have gone back and apologized to those who were the recipients of an unfair, and sharp comment of mine. Please correct me if I am mistaken, but I do not recall that particular act to be a very striking attribute of her character.

But if I see a cowardly bully beating someone to the ground, I can not, and I will not stand idly by. I put my money where my mouth is. I have been physically beaten to shreds in my work, while a little group stood off in the distance and watched. But because I was willing to give my all there are people alive, and other situations dramatically changed as a result.

I am not blowing my own horn, there are people out there every day jumping into a vicious fray to defend the innocent, at the literal risk of life and limb. Some little type such as G. was absolutely nothing by comparison. I end this with an expression of bafflement at some of the names that I still see rushing to her defense. Could you not see?

What Steve Said

After Gertrude (or G or naught or Terry Lynn Shanahan) was banned from Amazon Vine Forum - her "friends" went on to defend her while many people celebrated that the Vine was much less toxic and they felt they could speak freely without fear of being mocked or silenced.

And then, the mocking, the belittling, and the back-door bullying began. This post says it all:

I should have never checked back but I did...

Paul, love your example that's precisely what happens. But also along comes the neg votes and the very same people start complaining about the socks, the lurkers, it's all a conspiracy, yet in the same breath "I don't care about the down votes". Silea, TG, Just Kath and others showed the perfect example doing exactly what they always intended to do to disrupt this thread.

And I agree with Halfsmoke, TG pushed G and helped get her get booted out of here. He calls her a friend?

And now we see the same group of people trying to say we are twisting it and we are the bully's.

It's mind boggling.
